Native to Mexico and south America, dragon fruit loves warm tropical and subtropical climates but adapts well to a wide range of climates and can even come back from a mild frost. In climates with a frosty winter, we recommend growing in pots and moving to a sheltered spot over the winter.
As a succulent / cactus it is easily grown from cut pieces with very little care needed except to ensure the soil is sandy and free draining to avoid rotting.
Dragon fruit grows as a sprawling cactus, with long thick arm like stems. Best attached to an upright pole or trellis for easiest management and fruit collecting. As a cacti they have excellent drought tolerance, soil should be friable and free draining.
