Iconic native, can be tricky to get started from seed but worth trying for the gorgeous unique flowers and great adaptability to harsh Australia soils and conditions.
To germinate seed, put seeds in heatproof bowl or cup, pour boiling water over them and leave over night. Do this again the following day, then discard any floating seed the following day. Plant the remaining seed, germination may only be 50%, seedlings usually appear within 30 days but may take longer.
Does especially well in arid zones and dry western areas but worth trying in most non humid areas in Aus.
