West Indian Lemon Grass ( Cymbopogon citratus)
Sold as bare root plants ready for planting
Freshly divided, these lovely plants just need to be planted. Once established this variety grows in clumps approx. 1m tall. Best suited to hot humid climates but will also grow well in temperate climates in a pot or sheltered spot. Protect from frost and plant in a sheltered spot and they will get through a cold winter without any trouble.
Leaves can be used for tea, curries, thai dishes and many other cooking and medicinal uses.
Plant each rhizome 1m apart, bury the base of the rhizome in soil, covering the pale part of the stem. Cover with shadecloth (or if in pots, put in a shaded area) to protect from harsh sun for a few weeks while they establish.
Suitable for growing in a medium to large pot.
