Dwarf Cardamom / Shellflower / Cardamom Leaf Ginger
Alpinia nutans
1 x bare rooted plant / rhizome - approx 10cm in size (see 2nd picture)
This is a nice foliage plant that can be grown indoors, tolerates drought and smells amazing! Cardamom leaf ginger is not the true cardamom plant but the leaves are edible and have a distinctive cardamom scent which can be added to drinks, flavouring for rice, wrapping fish or flavouring deserts. Flowers are also edible. Cardamom leaf ginger prefers part shade but will grow in full sun or very low light such as an indoor window. Forms large clumps over time and can be used as a screen. Best in warm tropical climates but will happily grow in any frost free climate, even through a cold but frost free winter. Can grow in a large pot.
Plant roots and base of rhizome, space approx 25 cm apart or in separate pots. Fertilise well.
