Mugwort

Artemisia vularis

300 seeds

This is a hardy perennial herb similar to wormwood but with green foliage and grows to about 1-2m tall. The name derives from its original use which was to flavour drinks hence the word ‘mug’, other sources say it derives from the Norse word marsh. Mugwort has a variety of uses; it repels insects and has been traditionally used to regulate the menstrual cycle. It can also be used as a smoking herb. In the middle ages it was used to ward off evil spirits and protect from fatigue. In witchcraft it is said to induce lucid dreaming and astral travel when smoked. The small flowers are a butterfly and bee attractant or can be picked as a bittering agent in meat dishes. All round a very interesting herb!

Sow in Spring or Autumn Sow on surface as they need light to germinate, seeds need cold scarification and should be kept at about 4-7 degrees for 4 weeks before sowing for best results. seedlings emerge 14-21 days.
